SENIOR ACTIVITIES

Whether it’s in the pool, on a walk or at a birthday social, our programs for seniors help you enjoy your friends and stay healthy.

SENIOR EXERCISE AND WELLNESS

Engaging with older adults, creating welcoming environments for increased physical activity, is important for improving the health of our community. We offer walking clubs and indoor tracks, individualized wellness center orientations, and dozens of exercise classes for active older adults. Enjoy Zumba Gold, Tai Chi, Gentle Yoga, Water Aerobics, and more.

LIVE Y’ERS
BEING ACTIVE, WITH FRIENDS

Our minds and spirits need stimulus and enrichment, and we get so much more from life when we find things—and people—that inspire us. Whether you’re new to the community or simply want to pursue a new hobby, our active older adult community, called Live Y’ers (pronounced live wires), is an engaging group with open enrollment as a member benefit for those age 55 and up. Live Y’ers offers a calendar of activities, both near and far, for fellowship and learning.

Typically meeting the first Thursday of every month at 1:00 p.m. at the Teen Center, 585 Washington Street in North Attleboro, friends are welcome ($30 annual fee for non-members) and transportation can often be arranged.

EVENTS

One way our Live Y’ers have fun is to visit fun locations or go on adventures together. Here are some of the events planned by the committee: St. Patrick’s Day Luncheon, Spa Day in the spring, January Winter Wonderland evening event at the Y, Holiday Dinner plus Yankee Swap, Mardi Gras, and New Year’s Celebration at Four Points Sheraton.

LESSONS

Our seniors are always learning new things or taking in experiences together. Seniors take part in lessons: from candy-making to winter safety tips, they gather locally for breakfast or lunch, take part in free health screenings, local historian lectures, book clubs, afternoon card games, and more. Anything from bowling to movies & milk shakes.

LIVE Y’ERS NEWSLETTER

Live Y’ers puts out a regular newsletter to keep everyone up on what’s happening with the group. So don’t worry, you won’t miss a thing!

LIVE Y’ERS TRIPS

The Live Y’er group loves to get out for day trips, and even travels internationally together.

Destinations may include: Attleboro Industrial Museum, Gilbert Steward Museum, Stadium Theatre in Woonsocket, Music and Entertainment at Lake Pearl Luciano’s, Norman Rockwell Museum, American Boys Choir at Demitri’s Foxboro, Vaillancourt Folk Art Museum in Sutton, Mystic Aquarium, Newport Playhouse, Museum of Bad Art, Cabaret at Dean College, Tom Jones tribute at Twin Rivers, Peabody Essex Museum, Jazz Under the Elms, Boston trolley tours, Federal Hill, and – yes- more!

The group has traveled to New Hampshire to take in the fall foliage, the Mount in Lenox-with dinner at the Red Lion Inn, as well as the National 9/11 Museum in New York City. From Cape May, New Jersey to Italy and London, our Y is represented all over by people coming together for new experiences.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE

The Hockomock Area YMCA is committed to Social Responsibility, offering a variety of ways for seniors to be involved in the community. Seniors engage in the Y’s mission as a nonprofit, offering leadership and volunteering their time.

We offer opportunities for seniors to join town cleanups, contribute to local food pantries, and engage in meaningful ways with teenagers at camp and in the Leaders Program. Likewise, our staff contributes at community events and senior centers throughout the year, such as nutrition seminars and exercise programs.
