Whether it’s in the pool, on a walk or at a birthday social or through Live Y’ers, our programs for seniors help you enjoy your friends and stay healthy. The Y provides exercise classes designed specifically for seniors and active older adults such as Gentle Yoga, AOA Strength training, or AFYAP, so we can all stay healthy at every age.
Our supportive, small group physical activity programs are making a positive difference in the lives of individuals diagnosed with or at risk of a chronic disease. We provide support programs that address specific challenges associated with diseases such as cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and MS. Because we partner with the medical community, individuals can be referred into our health management program by their doctors.

Families with children need all the support they can get, to nurture their kids while creating time for their own enjoyment. The Y offers resources and conveniences for families, making it easier to manage a healthy lifestyle.
Besides our many programs for children, we also provide child supervision for up to 2 hours while you work out. These two quality programs – Child Watch and Kids’ Club – let you take time for yourself while your children experience their own fun. We’ll make sure they’re learning and exploring while mom or dad enjoy the Y.(Free for single parent and family type memberships. Non-family type memberships pay a fee).
As a national leader in Youth Development, the Y is uniquely equipped to provide child care and afterschool programs for kids. Not only do we have our own Children’s Center that provides all-day Child Care for preschool kids, we also partner with local schools to offer afterschool programs as well as School Break Camps, so that kids have a great place to go when school is out.
We host free family events throughout the year to connect your family as well as other Y families in our communities. From story times, special arts and crafts to free events such as Breakfast with the Bunny, Spooky Games, or Winter Wonderland, our family events and programs delight and strengthen families. There is so much to do at the Y to connect others.
The Y is a nonprofit service organization and has been Strenghening the Foundations of Community for over 150 years. Our members choose and carry out a deep commitment to social responsibility, and there are many ways to get involved at the Y.
The Y is a nationally recognized nonprofit, and our members are involved in vital work in the community. Our thriving volunteer and service opportunities are available for all ages, incorporating youth and teens as well as families and seniors.
Reflecting our commitment to social responsibility, our Community Initiatives represent sustained effort by our Y to raise funds and awareness to deal with important community concerns. For example, our Prescriptions for Healthy Lifestyles Initiative helps support individuals suffering from diseases such as cancer, and we raise funds to defray the cost of participation.
The Y is committed to serving every member of the community, regardless of ability to pay. The Hockomock Area YMCA provides completely confidential financial assistance for those in need.
When you join the YMCA, you become part of a national movement of more than 20 million members in over 2,700 local YMCA Associations, and you Hockomock Area YMCA membership grants you access to almost all of them. Because each Y is an autonomous, not-for-profit organization (and not a franchise), local Y policies may vary on the use of equipment, types of facilities, services and programs. When visiting a YMCA away from home, you’ll see that local YMCAs have grown to meet the specific needs of their communities.
The Hockomock Area YMCA participates in the A.W.A.Y. program (Always Welcome at YMCAs). Members can visit other participating YMCAs across the country for little or no fee by showing their photo membership card. Members of other YMCAs outside of New England may use the Hockomock Area YMCA facilities free for up to 12 visits per year by showing a current YMCA membership card.
All YMCA members from Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont are welcome free of charge, with their current YMCA ID card anywhere in New England. The program is for full facility/full privilege Y members (those holding teen, young adult, adult, family, couple, senior memberships).
Members are required to use their home branch at least 50% of the time. Some Ys, such as the YMCA of Martha’s Vineyard, have seasonal blackout periods. A small group of Ys have restrictions based upon their business needs (i.e. usage at particular times of day due to parking issues). We recommend members check the individual Y’s website before visiting. See ymca.net for a complete listing of all Ys.
